Mercury Retrograde Checklist for Business Owners (Reusable Every Cycle)

Mercury retrograde arrives several times a year. Fear content arrives with it. What most small business owners need is not a myth—it is a checklist covering communications, technology, contracts, and travel.

Print this, save it, reuse it. Two near-term applications :

• 24 October – 13 November 2026 (Scorpio; overlap with Venus Rx until dual direct 13 Nov). Pre-shadow ~4 Oct; post-shadow ~30 Nov.

• 9 February – 3 March 2027 (Pisces into Aquarius). Sits inside February eclipse season—extra care with inspired deals.

Mercury retrograde is when Mercury looks like it moves backward. It is a strong season to revise messages and systems—not a reason to freeze commerce.

The reusable Mercury Rx checklist

A. Communications

• [ ] Update email signature with current booking/payment links

• [ ] Re-read any announcement scheduled to send during Rx

• [ ] Prefer written summaries after calls

• [ ] Clarify time zones on every deadline

• [ ] Slow down public Q&A when tired—ambiguous replies create tickets

• [ ] Tell clients about known delays early, in plain language

Example: After a Zoom call, send: “Recap: deliverable X by Friday 5pm PT, invoice $600 USD, one revision round included.”

B. Technology & backups

• [ ] Backup critical folders and password vault

• [ ] Screenshot or export key settings before “quick fixes”

• [ ] Renew domains/hosting before they become emergencies

• [ ] Test checkout and scheduling links

• [ ] Label file versions with dates (no more `final_FINAL2`)

• [ ] Keep a rollback plan for website edits

Example: Before editing the shop theme, duplicate the page and keep yesterday’s export. If checkout breaks, you can roll back in minutes.

C. Contracts & money documents

• [ ] Inventory open proposals and statements of work

• [ ] Highlight unclear IP, payment, and termination clauses

• [ ] Prefer Wait or structured Proceed (see SFA contract framework)

• [ ] Double-check USD amounts, taxes noted, and deposit rules

• [ ] Save countersigned PDFs in two places

• [ ] During fall 2026 overlap, also apply Venus money diligence

D. Travel & logistics

• [ ] Build buffer into shipping and print deadlines

• [ ] Reconfirm venues, tracking numbers, and access codes

• [ ] Carry offline copies of tickets and addresses

• [ ] Avoid stacking fragile equipment moves with launch day when possible

Example — artist shipping work: Add 3–5 extra days during Rx weeks overlapping holidays. Photograph pieces before they leave.

E. Team & freelancers

• [ ] Shared doc of “source of truth” links

• [ ] Agree who can publish without second eyes during Rx

• [ ] Short daily standup beats long chaotic threads

What not to do (calm version)

You do not need to freeze commerce. Do avoid:

• Signing fuzzy exclusives under time pressure

• Redesigning the entire site and changing prices and running a huge new ad account in one afternoon

• Assuming every glitch is Mercury—sometimes it is ordinary ops debt

• Ghosting clients “because Rx”

• Buying new software to solve a process problem you have not defined

Station-week protocol

Two days before station retrograde: backups, reduce new commitments, finish critical sends.

Station day: light calendar; no heroics.

Mid-Rx: revise, renegotiate, research.

Station direct: finalize after review—do not rubber-stamp unread PDFs.

Post-shadow: confirm fixes stuck.

Fall 2026 vs winter 2027 flavor

Fall 2026 Scorpio Mercury (+ Venus Rx): deep money and contract review; dual direct on 13 Nov is a natural finalize window.

Feb–Mar 2027: eclipse-season Mercury Rx—path language and inspired deals need a second night’s sleep; Mars still Rx until 1 Apr, so do not force conquest launches on top of foggy messaging.

Client communication templates (adapt)

Delay: “Thanks for your patience—we’re confirming final details and will send the clean version by [date].”

Clarification: “To confirm in writing: deliverable X by date Y for $Z USD, with two revision rounds included.”

Boundary: “Happy to help with that as a separate estimate; it sits outside the current scope.”

These sentences do more good than blaming a planet in a client email.

Shadow periods on the ops calendar

Mark pre-shadow and post-shadow, not only the Rx dates. Pre-shadow is when you start backups and proposal cleanups. Post-shadow is when you verify that the fix you made still works. For October 2026 that is roughly 4 Oct – 30 Nov. Keep the same checklist habits every cycle.
